Application Requirements

Under ORC 3101.05, both applicants state under oath their name, age, residence, birthplace, occupation, parents' names, and the name of the expected officiant. Both must be at least 18 years old. If either person was previously married, bring a certified copy of the most recent divorce decree. The application also needs names of both parties from prior marriages, names of minor children, and the jurisdiction and case number of the divorce.

At least one person must be a Lucas County resident. If both are from out of state, they can still apply but must hold the wedding in Lucas County. No blood test is required. Ohio has no waiting period.

Making false statements on the application is a crime under ORC 2921.13. Take the oath seriously. Every detail must be correct.

Note: If you need a certified copy of a divorce decree for your application, the Lucas County Clerk of Courts can help.
