Summit County Probate Court for Cuyahoga Falls

The Summit County Probate Court is the only place to get a marriage license if you live in Cuyahoga Falls. The courthouse is at 209 South High Street, Akron, OH 44308. The phone number is (330) 643-2352. Office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. That is about a 10-minute drive from downtown Cuyahoga Falls, depending on traffic.

Both people must show up in person. There is no way to do this by mail, phone, or through a third party. Under ORC 3101.05, each person must personally appear at the probate court in the county where one of them lives. Since Cuyahoga Falls is in Summit County, this court is your only option unless the other person lives in a different county.

Cuyahoga Falls does not have a city clerk or city office that handles marriage licenses. Only the Summit County Probate Court in Akron can process your application.

Cuyahoga Falls Marriage License Fees

The fee is $64.00. If you use the online eMarriage License Application Portal, there is a 5% processing fee on top. That brings the online total to about $67.20. At the courthouse, you can pay with cash, credit cards (3% surcharge), or in-state checks. Out-of-state checks are not accepted.

Certified copies cost $2.00 each. It is smart to order several at once. Banks, the Social Security office, the BMV, and employers may all need to see a certified copy if you change your name. Getting them at the time of pickup saves you a return trip.

What to Bring From Cuyahoga Falls

Bring a valid photo ID for each person. Driver's licenses and passports are the most common options. You also need your Social Security number and proof of address. If your parents' names are not in the system, you might need an original birth certificate.

Previously married applicants must bring a certified divorce decree or death certificate (if widowed). You have to list all past marriages, minor children from those marriages, and the details of each divorce including jurisdiction, date, and case number. Every piece of this is required under ORC 3101.05. Giving false information is a crime under ORC 2921.13.

Marriage License Validity and Timing

Once you apply online, the court sends two emails: a confirmation and a payment receipt. You then have 30 days to pick up the license in person. The license itself is valid for 60 days from the date of issue, as stated in ORC 3101.07. If you do not have the ceremony within that window, the license expires and you start the process over.

There is no waiting period in Ohio. The license is good right away once the probate judge signs it. Ohio got rid of its five-day waiting period back in February 2001. After the ceremony, the officiant has 30 days to file the signed certificate with the probate court under ORC 3101.13.

Who Can Perform Marriages Near Cuyahoga Falls

ORC 3101.08 lists the people who can legally perform a wedding in Ohio. That includes ordained or licensed ministers registered with the Ohio Secretary of State, county and municipal court judges, probate judges, and mayors of any Ohio city. The Summit County Probate Judge can also solemnize marriages per ORC 2101.27. Contact the court to ask about courthouse ceremony options.

If you want a civil ceremony, the Akron Municipal Court may be an option. You can also check with the mayor's office in Cuyahoga Falls, since mayors are authorized to marry couples anywhere in Ohio. Fees vary by officiant.
