Carroll County Probate Court Details

The Carroll County Probate Court is at 119 S Lisbon Street, Suite 202, Carrollton, OH 44615. You can call (330) 627-2323 or fax (330) 627-6004. The court is open Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. It handles marriage licenses, estate administration, guardianships, and adoptions.

To apply for a marriage license, both of you must go to the Probate Court in person. There is no way to do it by mail or online. Each person gives their information under oath, as required by ORC 3101.05. That includes name, age, residence, place of birth, occupation, parents' names, and the name of the planned officiant. If the probate judge sees no legal barrier, the license is issued during your visit.

Carroll County is a smaller, largely rural county. The court staff is used to walking applicants through the process step by step. If you have questions, a phone call to (330) 627-2323 before your visit can help you prepare.

Required Documents in Carroll County

Bring a valid photo ID for each person. A driver's license, state ID, or passport will work. You also need your Social Security card or other proof of your number. The court records the number, but ORC 3101.051 requires it to be removed before anyone else can view the marriage record. Your number stays private.

If you were married before, you must bring documentation that proves each prior marriage ended. A certified divorce decree is standard. You need to list the names of both parties from the prior marriage, any minor children, and the jurisdiction, date, and case number of the divorce. This information is checked against your oath, and false statements are a criminal offense under ORC 2921.13.

Note: Carroll County requires Social Security cards or other documentation showing your Social Security number when you apply for a marriage license.

Check the U.S. Federal Census for clues about where people lived just before or after their marriage.
